At the invitation of the school’s leadership, Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr on Saturday, August 3, 2024, joined the Proprietress, Headteacher, parents, pupils, and community leaders of Sarah Memorial Preparatory School in Mayaya Section, Konakridee, Lungi, in the Port Loko District as a guest speaker for the graduation of 29 nursery 2 pupils. The event is a critical milestone in transforming the lives of communities through early childhood development and pre-school education.
Founded in September 2021 by Hon. Abdul Kargbo and his wife, Mrs. Violette Gbassy Kargbo, with their own resources, the school offers free quality education; learning materials and uniforms are supplied free of charge and the teachers’ salaries are also paid by Hon and Mrs Kargbo. Before the school’s establishment, parents in this fishing community in Kaffu Bullom took their children with them on their fishing activities.
In her statement, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr thanked Hon and Mrs Kargbo for their generosity and ongoing commitment to transforming the lives of disadvantaged children. She congratulated the pupils and also encouraged parents to invest in their children’s education to benefit their families and the country as a whole. She emphasized that education would unlock the potential of the children and give them greater opportunities in life. Also in attendance were the Port Loko District Council Chairperson, Sheku Tejan Saccoh, Senior Inspector of Schools, Bockarie Bangura, and Honourable Ibrahim Bangura of Constituency 076.
