International African Women’s Day commemorated

31 July 2024

On July 31, Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, joined the Mano River Women Peace Network (MARWOPNET-SL), the Minister of Gender and Children’s Affairs, and other stakeholders to commemorate this year’s International African Women’s Day and to officially launch African Women for Peace Day in Sierra Leone. Under the theme ‘Inspiring Inclusion’, African Women’s Day celebrates the contributions of women’s organizations to national development. It also acknowledges the role of women in fostering a robust Pan-African identity, with shared values and a vision for the future.

In another engagement, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr served as a distinguished guest speaker at the Africa Women’s Day Virtual Celebration 2024, organized by the planning Secretariat for Africa Women’s Day Awareness (AWD), in collaboration with Africa Women in Trade (AfWITrade) and other partners. The Africa Women’s Day Awareness Team (AWD) is dedicated to raising awareness about Africa Women’s Day by highlighting their legacy.
