Earlier this week, Mayor of Freetown and C40 Cities Co-Chair, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr OBE, took part in a series of high-level events at the 12th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF12), held by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) in Cairo, Egypt.
Mayor Aki-Sawyerr participated in a panel on the investment priorities for advancing sustainable urban development, in a roundtable on mobilizing climate finance for urban projects, and an intergovernmental panel on climate change. She also joined young climate leaders for a discussion on accelerating youth-led, localized climate action in cities, and presented key findings on GCEW’s Report of the Economics of Water at the Urban Arena.
Mayor Aki-Sawyerr had opportunities to present the Freetown Caring Cities model (with a Care Block soon to be built in Susan’s Bay community) and the Freetown Cable Car project to potential funding partners. These were all very productive engagements for Freetown that will be followed up with actions in the coming weeks and months.
