Construction of Susan’s Bay Care Block Progresses as Mayor Conducts Site Visit

On Friday 20 February, Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr OBE visited the construction site of the Susan’s Bay Care Block, a dedicated community facility designed to support and empower caregivers in Susan’s Bay.

Accompanied by councillor Angela Barbar Richards and project leads, the Mayor toured the site and engaged with community stakeholders including the chief and project beneficiaries, who highlighted the project’s importance and anticipated impact. She also observed an ongoing financial literacy training session for caregivers, one of several interventions under the initiative.

Once completed, the facility, anticipated to be completed by April this year, will bring together a range of essential services in one accessible location, including adult education, nutrition support, childcare, skills development, and access to health and gender-based violence resources.

The project is being implemented by the FCC in partnership with CHANGE and draws inspiration from Bogotá’s innovative Care Blocks model, which is designed to empower local caregivers. It forms part of the Scaling Care Innovations in Africa partnership and is funded by Global Affairs Canada and IDRC, with additional support from Metropolis.
