Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr on Monday 11 November, met with the new British High Commissioner Sierra Leone. It was also an opportunity for her to extend a warm welcome to Freetown to H.E. Josephine Gauld.

Their meeting was engaging and very special – as they met on the RFA Lyme Bay (a British Naval Ship)! It was a pleasure for the mayor to also engage in and exchange ideas with the Minister of Fisheries Hon Princess Dugbah. Among many topics related to the ocean, ports and fishing, they discussed the impact of mangrove destruction on artisanal fishing and the resultant dwindling fish stocks.

Mayor Aki-Sawyerr explained how Freetown City Council is addressing mangrove destruction through further expanding #FreetownTheTreeTown whilst recognizing the urgent need for effective multi-stakeholder collaboration.
