FCC starts construction of 2 cemetery walls and a Municipal School wall

28 July 2024

To address the challenge of security and the protection of the final resting places of Freetonians, Freetown City Council (FCC) has started major wall construction projects at the Ascension Town and Kissy Road cemeteries. On the 27th July 2024, FCC handed over project sites to contractors for the construction of a 126-meter perimeter wall and installation of a gate at Ascension Town Cemetery and a 304-meter perimeter wall and gate at Kissy Road Cemetery.

Additionally, FCC started construction of a 210-meter perimeter wall and gate at Akibo-Bett Municipal School. This perimeter wall will also protect the Tower Hill Municipal Primary School which is located on the same grounds.

This important construction work is funded by FCC own source revenue, principally mobilized through the payment by Freetonians of property rates and business licenses. FCC would like to ensure that all cemeteries and municipal schools are fenced and protected but this and other critical work can only be funded if Freetonians pay their property rates and business licenses!
