On November 1, 2025, the Freetown City Council (FCC) met with stakeholders and residents of Susan’s Bay to discuss the Freetown Caring Project (Care Block), an initiative promoting social and economic development within the community.
Led by FCC with partners CHANGE, WoLEAD, SLURC, and Kore Global, and funded by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) of Canada, the project focuses on capacity building, health, safety, and economic empowerment especially for women and caregivers engaged in unpaid care work.
Planned activities include vocational and literacy training, alongside community wellness programs to enhance livelihoods and wellbeing, explained Project Manager Adama Koroma
Councilors Mohamed Fofanah and Angella Barber Richards commended the Mayor for championing the initiative and reaffirmed FCC’s commitment to community-driven development. They urged residents to collaborate and actively shape the project’s success. Caregivers from Susan’s Bay expressed optimism that the Care Block will bring meaningful, lasting change to their community.
