On Friday, February 21, Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr delivered a lecture on Public Health and Pandemic Preparedness at the University of Makeni, invited by the Public Health Department and Ministry of Education. Joined by Freetown City Councilors, she discussed the global dynamics of pandemics, the role of international partners in combating outbreaks, and the need to strengthen healthcare systems. She also highlighted the impact of diseases like malaria and emphasized the importance of essential infrastructure for preparedness.
Later that day, she served as the keynote speaker at the 4th 50 Most Influential Northern Region Women in Leadership Award ceremony, held at the Bombali District Council. The event celebrated the contributions of women in driving transformation, mentoring young people, and unlocking potential across various fields. Mayor Aki-Sawyerr encouraged women to continue to invest their time in supporting young girls, as their inspiration can be a powerful source for meaningful transformation.
