FCC hosts AMALi

3 July 2024

This week, FCC received a delegation from the African Mayoral Leadership Initiative (AMALi) Data Programme for a two-day workshop as part of FCC’s commitment to establish a foundational data management practice for effective performance management. The African Mayoral Leadership Initiative (AMALi), a partnership between the African Centre for Cities at the University of Cape Town- South Africa, Big Win Philanthropy, and Bloomberg Philanthropies is an initiative to empower city leaders to drive transformative change by providing technical support in areas like access to data for better governance and lasting impact on cities.

The AMALi Data Programme supports mayors to establish data reporting and performance management mechanisms, further enabling them to monitor and assess progress towards their legacy goals, which are intended to provide long-term benefits for city residents.

As part of her legacy project, Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr is pushing critical interventions to improve the lives of Freetown’s residents through the Transform Freetown – Transforming Lives 2024-2028 Development Agenda with a goal of creating 120,000 decent jobs over the next four years. Achieving this ambitious development agenda will also depend on effective credible data collection in 4 clusters- Climate Action, Heritage Tourism, Digital Economy and Human Capital Development. During the two-day engagement with the AMALI team in Freetown, discussions focused on Mayor Aki-Sawyerr’s legacy goal, outlining specific timelines, targets, and key activities for interventions.
