🚨 Urgent: Open Letter in Response to Announced Plans to Divide Freetown into Two Cities 📄 #SAVE FREETOWN

FCC and CRS Donate Cleaning Tools and Tricycles to Support Waste Management in Kroo Bay

As part of our continuous efforts to improve Freetown’s waste management, today, alongside our partner Catholic Relief Services (CRS), we donated tricycles and cleaning tools to the Kroo Bay Community.

The shovels, rakes, boots, face masks, gloves and two tricycles will support waste management efforts within the community. The initiative also creates job opportunities for six local youth who will operate the tricycles. To support the sustainability of the initiative, residents will contribute a minimal waste collection fee to fund maintenance of the tricycles.

During the handover ceremony, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr emphasised that the equipment should be used exclusively for improving waste management in Kroo Bay. She also urged community members and leaders to discourage illegal dumping and land reclamation through waste disposal.

This donation has happened ahead of FCC’s upcoming #DortiMusGo campaign, which will commence with an intensive citywide cleanup exercise set to launch in mid-May. This campaign forms part of our broader efforts to implement our newly enacted sanitation byelaws aimed at transforming waste management across Freetown.
