On Tuesday, 25 November 2025, Freetown City Council marked a major milestone in its Transform Freetown–Transforming Lives agenda with the official handover of the Kingtom (Bomeh) dumpsite by Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr OBE to Sierra Forever Green Ltd, which will now assume management responsibilities, significantly reducing operational costs for the Council.
This brief handover ceremony, attended by FCC councillors including the Sanitation Committee Chairperson, the Deputy Chief Administrator, and the Environment and Sanitation Officer, represents a transformative step toward increased recycling, with a projected processing capacity of 30 tons of plastic waste daily. In line with Freetown’s commitment to job creation, early estimates suggest that the initiative will create employment opportunities for approximately 500 young people.
Mayor Aki-Sawyerr described the handover as a landmark achievement, emphasising its dual impact on strengthening waste management and expanding job opportunities. She encouraged residents to register with FCC’s approved service providers.
