The #MaskupFreetown Campaign Continues with a Donation of 2000 Masks to Traders at Sweissy and Peters Brook (Belgium) Markets

Today, Freetown City Council and Madam Wokie donated 2000 masks to traders at the Sweissy & Peters Brook (popularly known as Belgium) Markets, with support from #EUStandsWithSalone.

Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr spoke with the Chairmen and members of the markets. She emphasized on the importance of wearing mask as a preventive measure for COVID19, especially given that they as traders and businessmen are in contact with so many different people on a daily basis. The Mayor also explained how to properly use and wear a mask. She empathized with the traders stating that she herself finds it difficult to wear a mask all day, however, it’s better to be on the safe side and always wear a mask when in public places.

Mary- Ann Kai Kai, Creative Director of Madam Wokie shared additional information on the importance of mask-wearing with focus on how to clean and wash the cloth masks.

The overall goal of the #MaskupFreetown Campaign is to provide 120,000 masks to markets and other vulnerable communities as a response to #COVID19.

Help us #StoptheSpread and #WearAMask.

Special thanks to EU, CRS, Madam Wokie and LunchBox for their work with this campaign.
